Questions and Answers > Swing Theory > Quick cure for the shanks? -Bob, FL

Check out my About section and profile page if you would like to find out more about me and what we do.  You are also welcome to submit your questions.

    Bob,

    I feel for you man.

Sometime during your swing, your body has moved several inches closer to the ball.  Your hands are also rapidly releasing.  Did you know that a shank is caused by a closed clubface?

Roll by your local proshop and see if they have a driver box.  Head out to the practice tee and line the box up at your target.  Place a ball just inside the box and start swinging without hitting the box.  The box is good because you can work your way back about 45 inches without re-positioning the box.

Another feeling:  squat in to your trail heel on your backswing, drive into your left heel in the through swing.  Focusing on your heels helps you stay back and away from the ball.
